Canby Educational Foundation Summary of Activities 2007-2008

Grant funding for 2007- 2008 totaled $27,526 with projects funded at every school in the Canby School DisEcology in the Classroom and Outdoorstrict.
The largest project ($10,400) provided an ecology program (Ecology in the Classroom and Outdoors) for the elementary schools.

Artist in residence programs at Carus and Lee Elementary schools matched PTA funds for school-wide created murals permanently mounted to the entry walls at Carus and the media center walls at Lee.

Ceramic flowers created for the entry mural at Carus. Artist Sam Bernardi helps students create murals for the media center at Lee.

The foundation continued its support of Stay and P.L.A.Y. with a grant providing scholarships to low income families needing help with the program's tuition fees.
Document Camera In Use at the Highschooll

Grant funds awarded to the math and language arts departments at Canby High School helped purchase several document cameras and projectors. This equipment is being used primarily in classes for students who will most benefit from its capabilities in displaying text, student work and teaching samples.

The Foundation also provided support at Baker Prairie Middle School for its newly initiated
welcoming program for incoming sixth graders and at Ackerman Middle School for the addition of resource materials for the staff library. Technology equipment was purchased through a grant awarded to Ninety-one School and Knight Elementary received a grant to purchase career education materials.

In September 2008, the Foundation will fund over $60,000 to complete the voice amplification system project begun in 2004. Every classroom in Canby elementary and middle schools will have a system designed to enhance classroom atmosphere, reduce staff voice fatigue, and train students in the use of microphones to enhance reading fluency and presentation.
